Data Briefs

We feel that it is important for key data findings to be shared widely with our partners. As a part of ND HOPES, we routinely create data briefs with key findings that draw from various data sources. These briefs present information such as data on suicide in western North Dakota compared to the entire state and nation and trends among disproportionately affected populations including veterans, rural residents, and youth.

Data Brief - July 2024

Produced in partnership with ND HHS, this Data Brief presents data on suicide attempts and deaths, explains current trends, and highlights data-focused work in North Dakota.

Veterans Data Brief – January 2025

ESSENCE Data Brief – May 2025

With support from North Dakota Health and Human Services (ND HHS), ND HOPES has created a data brief on ESSENCE (Electronic Surveillance System for Early Notification of Community-Based Epidemics). This system helps track public health trends, including suicide-related incidents. The purpose of this data brief is to increase awareness and provide key information to suicide prevention partners to tailor programming, policies, and suicide prevention efforts.

Protective Factors Data Brief – September 2025

Apply life-saving data about protective factors to your work!  With support from North Dakota Health and Human Services (ND HHS), ND HOPES created a data brief on protective factors. Protective factors are characteristics or attributes that help to reduce the likelihood of suicidal thoughts and behaviors at personal, community, and societal levels. This data brief focuses on social connection and access to high quality care as protective factors for suicide, highlighting local third places in North Dakota that can present opportunities for future suicide prevention initiatives.
