FirstLink Breakfast keynote speaker:
Dr. Sally Spencer-Thomas, Psy.D.
Keynote Speaker & Impact Entrepreneur
Co-Found & President, United Suicide Survivors International
“Dr. Sally” is a clinical psychologist and award-winning mental health advocate with her own experience of losing her beloved brother to suicide. Her mission is to give voice to people who’ve lived through mental health challenges including addiction, trauma, and even experiences with suicide.
Her ultimate goal is to help those in despair rekindle a passion for living.
She does not just “raise awareness” to “reduce stigma” or just offer one-off training that allows organizations to check a box and move on. Her approach is to empower leaders and communities to implement innovative, comprehensive, and sustainable strategies for mental health promotion, addiction recovery, and suicide prevention.
Sally is the lead author of the National Guidelines for Workplace Suicide Prevention, President and Co-Founder of United Suicide Survivors International, and co-founder of “Man Therapy” (www.ManTherapy.org – an innovative men’s mental health initiative). She also co-edited the Guts, Grit & the Grind book series that provides men and the people who love them with tools to help them better understand and cope with life’s challenges.
Her leadership experiences include past Executive Secretary of the National Action Alliance for Suicide Prevention, Executive Board Member of the American Association of Suicidology, Co-Chair for the Lived Experience Advisory Committee for 988, and many other board and Chair positions at the national level.
Sally gave a TEDx talk as well as an invited address at the White House. Her impressive list of partners includes dozens of large construction contractors, labor unions, and professional associations as well as the National Fallen Firefighters Foundation, the FBI, Chubb Insurance, Southwest Airlines, and a global tech company. She has also spoken and consulted internationally including in Australia, Ireland, China, Singapore, Taiwan, Italy, Malaysia, Canada, Uruguay, Denmark, Slovenia, Estonia, Japan, Norway, New Zealand, Spain, Switzerland, and Belgium.
